Winter snow and holiday traffic can add time; check road status.

Most guests hire a local taxi for snow days, because the drivers know the road and the day's conditions. If you drive yourself, set off early, carry what the weather asks for, and be ready to turn back. Our basement parking holds your own car on days you take a taxi.

Leave early to enjoy the quieter hours and avoid the afternoon jams on the way down. Snow, road clearing and holiday traffic all change the day, so treat any timing as an estimate and check road status in the morning.

THE PLACE

Solang, the Atal Tunnel and Sissu

Solang Valley snow is the first thing many visitors think of: snow play, skiing in season and a ropeway. The snow activities Solang offers draw crowds on weekends and holidays.

The Atal Tunnel connects Manali with Lahaul, and Sissu lies just beyond it. An Atal Tunnel trip from Manali often includes a Sissu day trip, and many visitors drive through for the change of landscape on the far side.

Permit and road rules change with the season, so check the Atal Tunnel permit position and official HP Police and district notices before you set out. Roads may close after heavy snow, and a plan that works one day may not work the next. We never promise snow.

A PLAN

A snow-day plan from a hotel near Solang Valley

  1. 6:45 – Early breakfast and a check of road status with us.
  2. 7:30 – Leave for the valley with a local taxi or your own vehicle.
  3. 9:00 – Snow play at Solang if conditions allow; keep to safe areas.
  4. 12:30 – Lunch, then decide: through the Atal Tunnel to Sissu, or head back.
  5. 3:00 – Start the drive down before the afternoon jams.
  6. 6:30 – A hot shower, kahwa and dinner at DO NTHNG, and an early night.

A Manali snow day trip is long and tiring. Coming back to a quiet, warm room matters more than being closer to the slopes by a few minutes. Prini sits on the left bank, away from the heaviest traffic, so your evening starts the moment you arrive.

If you stay near Solang Valley Manali, at HOGS you can dry out, eat and rest without going anywhere else: dinner and a hot drink are downstairs. Parking is in the basement, so your return does not involve circling streets in the dark.

How far is Solang Valley from HOGS?

Solang is a drive up the valley from our address on Shuru Road in Prini. We have not published an exact distance yet, because we only quote numbers we have measured on the map, and snow and holiday traffic change the time. Message us and we will share the best route.

Is there snow in Solang in December?

Snow is possible in winter, but it is never guaranteed and depends on the year and the day. Check the forecast and road status close to your date, and keep your plans flexible. Message us before you leave and we will share what we know.

Do I need a permit for the Atal Tunnel?

Permit and road rules can change with the season and the vehicle, so we cannot give a fixed answer. Check official HP Police and district notices shortly before you travel, and confirm with your driver. We are happy to point you the right way when you message us.

Can I do Solang and Sissu in one day?

Many visitors try, but it is a long day, and snow, road clearing and queues can make it longer. Start early, keep the schedule flexible, and be ready to skip one stop. Choose whichever you care about most, and treat the other as a bonus.

What should I wear for a Solang snow trip?

Wear layers, thermal innerwear, waterproof boots with grip, gloves, a hat and sunglasses, and carry a spare pair of socks. Snow reflects strong light, so protect your eyes. You can keep your warm dry clothes at HOGS for the evening and change when you return.
