Winter snow and holiday traffic can add time; check road status.

The road up to Sethan and to the Hampta trek start goes via the Prini side, so leaving from HOGS puts you on the right road from the first minute. Most guests hire a local taxi for the climb; in snow, a 4x4 or a local driver who knows the stretch is often the sensible choice.

Start early. Road clearing can take time after snowfall, and afternoon traffic on the way down can be slow. Park at HOGS in our basement and travel up with a local driver rather than taking your own car, unless you are confident on snow.

THE PLACE

Sethan and Hampta
in a few lines.

Sethan village Manali guests ask about is a small high village above Prini, popular in winter for snow. Sethan snow is the draw: it is the kind of place you visit for a walk in white fields and a warm drink afterwards, not for a long checklist. Sethan in winter is also an easy option for snow near Manali without a very long drive.

The Hampta Pass trek is a summer and early-autumn trek. In winter, visitors go up for snow walks, not for the full pass. If you are a trekker planning for the season, the road-head and the weather shape everything, so confirm the dates and permissions with your trek organiser.

Access in snow depends on road clearing. Four-wheel-drive vehicles or local taxis may be needed, and some days the road will simply not open. We never promise snow, and we will tell you plainly on the morning if the road looks wrong.

A PLAN

A snow-day plan if you stay near Sethan Manali

  1. 7:30 – Early breakfast and a check of road status with us.
  2. 8:30 – Local taxi or 4x4 up towards Sethan.
  3. 10:00 – Snow walk and photographs; keep to marked, safe areas.
  4. 1:00 – Start down before the afternoon slows the road.
  5. 3:00 – Back at HOGS: dry socks, a hot shower, a rest.
  6. 6:30 – Dinner and a warm drink at DO NTHNG, ending the day by the terrace.

WHY PRINI

Why stay in quiet Prini
instead.

Staying at the top can sound romantic, but the cold is serious and facilities are thin. Prini lets you do the opposite: sleep warm at a lower height, go up for the snow, and come back to a hot meal.

Trekkers get the same advantage: a Hampta Pass trek base stay with a hot shower and a coffee before the road-head, and a proper dinner after, makes a long trek feel shorter. If you want a stay before Hampta trek day one, or a hotel near Hampta valley roads, ask us about early departures and luggage before you travel.

QUESTIONS

Sethan and Hampta,
answered.

How far is Sethan from HOGS?

Sethan is up the road from Prini, where we are on Shuru Road. We have not published an exact distance yet, because we only quote numbers we have measured on the map, and the climb can be slow in winter. Message us and we will share the best route and timing.

Does Sethan get snow?

Sethan is a high village that is popular in winter for snow, but snow is never guaranteed and depends on the season and the day. Heavy snowfall can also close the road. Check the forecast and road status before you go, and message us for the latest.

Can I drive to Sethan in winter?

Access depends on how quickly the road is cleared after snow. A four-wheel-drive vehicle or a local taxi with an experienced driver may be needed, and on some days the road will not open. Check status in the morning, and ask us before you leave.

Where should I stay before the Hampta Pass trek?

A comfortable base the night before makes an early start easier. HOGS Panorama in Prini is on the road side where the climb begins, with parking, Wi-Fi and a cafe on site. Confirm trek dates, permissions and the road-head with your trek organiser.

Is there a cafe on the way to Sethan?

Our own cafe, DO NTHNG – Himalayan Brew, is on site at HOGS Panorama in Prini and open daily from 10 AM to 10 PM, with coffee, comfort food and cocktails. Have a warm meal here before the climb or on the way back down.
